Bring nature into your home.

Pressing flowers and botanicals is a beautiful, meditative practice that can lead to fun experiments in art and science for any age or skill level. You can make timeless art, gathering inspiration from many sources online: https://feltmagnet.com/crafts/The-Art-of-Flower-Pressing . Pressed flowers are gorgeous when used to make a custom card. How special to gift a small piece of your own garden?! Other common uses for pressed flowers include resin jewelry, to decorate candles, picture frames, glass window hangers and so many others. Pressing flowers is also a great way to extend our short growing season here in Canada, allowing you to play with flowers deep into winter.

Have an important bouquet? Press it, turn it into art and keep it forever :)

With pressing flowers you can begin to monitor the biodiversity around you by keeping a nature journal that includes pressed plants. Keep notes about how many plants each year grow in the area, when they sprout, bloom, how healthy they are and/or what pollinators visit. Create a new connection with the landscape around you, and potentially contribute to citizen science databases with any of your unique findings! Here's a plant database you might consider checking out: https://www.naturewatch.ca/plantwatch/ . As always, make sure you are not overharvesting wild plant resources... leaving lots for next year and for the pollinators. Use a plant phone app or a book to determine which plant you are harvesting to make sure it is not a rare or delicate species.

Cedarwood was chosen for its beautiful scent and colour. The cedarwood is GORGEOUS. The press is 30cm (L) x 20cm (W) by 7cm (H) cedarwood with stainless steel hardware and a branded logo on the top. Great for collections of flowers for your projects. The plant press can extend to 10cm in height, so lots of room to stack and press!

You can separate your pressed flowers with layers of paper and cardboard, or purchase specialty pressing paper online. I've always had great results with simple materials, making this activity very accessible once you've got the press, which will last a lifetime and then some.
