A candle for all ye merry witches!
Mullein is a common plant, not native to Turtle Island, but with an abundance of medicinal uses and folklore. The burning of Mullein is a widely used to purify the air and lungs. The burning of Hag's Torches -- or Hag's Taper, Hedge Taper, Witch's Candle -- is mostly associated with Samhain, when the veil is thin, to drive away evil spirits. These Hag's Torches can be used to incorporate nature into ceremony and celebrations.
Hag's Torches vary in length but average 30cm. They are dipped in Ontario Beeswax and raw Frankincense resin. Yes, they smell delicious. Each one is rolled in locally harvested fireweed flowers.
Burn time also varies, but it is about 10min per 3cm. They are best burned outside, stuck into the earth, sand, snow and away from any flammable materials. These are certainly torches more so than candles. They burn bright!
